Frequently Asked Questions

SIL is an NDIS support that funds paid supports in your home — not the home itself. It provides assistance with daily tasks in a shared living arrangement, helping you live as independently as possible while having trained support workers available around the clock.

SIL is suited to people with disability who require daily support but want to live more independently. It is typically for people who need regular or high-intensity support that can't reasonably be provided through other arrangements. Your NDIS plan must include SIL funding (under "Assistance with Daily Life").

SIL funding covers the cost of support workers — assistance with personal care, domestic tasks, skill building, medication, and community participation. It does not cover rent, food, utilities, or other living costs, which are the participant's responsibility.

SIL is the support (staff), while Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is the housing. Many participants receive SIL in ordinary rental properties or in SDA-registered homes. Individual Living Options (ILO) is an alternative for participants who prefer more tailored, non-shared living arrangements.

Alternatives include Individual Living Options (ILO) for more personalised arrangements, In Home Supports (IHS) for participants living in their own home, or Short Term Accommodation (STA) for respite. Your NDIS planner or Support Coordinator can help you explore the best fit.

Contact us to arrange an initial discussion. We'll talk through your goals, current supports, and housing preferences. If SIL is the right fit, we'll work with you and your Support Coordinator to prepare a SIL Proposal for the NDIA and find a suitable home.

Where possible, yes. We try to match participants based on compatibility, lifestyle preferences, support needs, and goals. We encourage open conversations during the matching process to ensure the arrangement works well for everyone in the home.

You always have the right to change your living situation. We work collaboratively with participants, families, and Support Coordinators to ensure transitions are planned carefully and any alternative supports are in place before a move occurs.
